Welcome to the Quantum Circuits school
The IEEE CAS Seasonal School on Quantum Circuits brought together thought leaders, professionals, researchers and students to explore the latest advances in quantum computing. Held on 9 and 10 November 2024, it combined lectures, a hands-on workshop and interactive sessions for learning, networking and collaboration.
Quantum circuits operate on qubits rather than classical bits, exploiting superposition and entanglement to perform computations classical machines cannot — with promise in optimisation, cryptography and materials science. Algorithms such as the Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA) have already shown speed and efficiency gains on real-world problems.
The school set out to close the skills gap: a solid grounding in quantum theory, hands-on circuit design, and exposure to cutting-edge applications — preparing a new generation of engineers for the quantum computing industry.

About the speakers
Prof. Apoorva D Patel
His work at the Centre for High Energy Physics, IISc, spans theoretical physics and computation — from quantum algorithms to the intersection of information theory and genetics — bridging theoretical quantum mechanics and practical quantum computing.
Dr. Sudipto Chakraborty
18 years across RF, analog and mixed-signal circuits and systems — maximising dynamic range per milliwatt in projects spanning 134 kHz to 80 GHz in CMOS and SiGe. Around 40 granted patents and 70 publications.
Dr. Ritajit Majumdar
Research Scientist at IBM Quantum and guest faculty in Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Calcutta; previously a Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Scholar at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center.
