Membership Qualifications
Who Can JoinProfessional Members
Professional membership is open to individuals who by experience give evidence of competence in an IEEE designated field. The designated fields include Engineering, Computer Sciences and Information Technology, Physical Sciences, Biological and Medical Sciences, Mathematics, Technical Communications, Education, Management, and Law and Policy.
Student Members
A Student or Graduate Student member must carry at least 50% of a normal full-time academic program as a registered undergraduate or graduate student in a regular course of study in IEEE designated fields. The total cumulative period for a member to hold the Student and/or Graduate Student member grade is limited to eight years.

Go to ieee.org/join and click "Join IEEE". You'll be taken to the official membership application page where you can select your membership grade — Student, Graduate Student, or Professional.

Select Your Membership Grade & Society
Choose the membership grade that matches your academic or professional status. You may also add IEEE Societies (like the Circuits and Systems Society) during this step for access to specialised resources and communities.

Complete the Application Form
Fill in your personal details, educational background, and professional information. Students will need to provide proof of enrollment and confirm their field of study falls within an IEEE designated area.
